This is the practical, behind-the-scenes path from promising science to full-scale deployment. Dr. Susan Schofer (SOSV HAX) will be joined by Dr. Barbara Burger, widely known as the “Godmother of Energy Investing.” With a Caltech PhD, a Berkeley MBA, and as a “graduate” of Chevron (finishing as VP, Innovation and President, Chevron Technology Ventures), Dr. Burger has spent decades acting as an \"Industrial Sherpa” - a guide who helps breakthrough science survive the realities of industrial scale. She now advises and sits on boards including Bloom Energy, Energy Impact Partners, and Syzygy Plasmonics.","access":{"free":true,"application_required":null},"audience_roles":["investors","technical_builders"],"audience_orientation":"mixed","company_stage":null,"interaction":["content"],"topics":["climate","enterprise"],"modality":"virtual","meal_context":"none","series":null,"mentions":[{"text":"Berkeley","kind":"organization","subtype":"university","role":"affiliation"},{"text":"Bloom Energy","kind":"organization","subtype":"company","role":"affiliation"},{"text":"Caltech","kind":"organization","subtype":"university","role":"affiliation"},{"text":"Chevron","kind":"organization","subtype":"company","role":"affiliation"},{"text":"Chevron Technology Ventures","kind":"organization","subtype":"company","role":"affiliation"},{"text":"Energy Impact Partners","kind":"organization","subtype":"fund","role":"affiliation"},{"text":"SOSV HAX","kind":"organization","subtype":null,"role":"affiliation"},{"text":"Syzygy Plasmonics","kind":"organization","subtype":"company","role":"affiliation"},{"text":"SOSV Deep Tech LIVE","kind":"program","subtype":null,"role":"organizer"},{"text":"Dr. Barbara Burger","kind":"person","subtype":null,"role":"speaker"},{"text":"Dr. Susan Schofer","kind":"person","subtype":null,"role":"speaker"}],"sources":[{"id":"garysguide","class":"newsletter","publisher":"GarysGuide","first_observed_at":"2026-02-23T13:20:12.0000000Z","last_observed_at":"2026-02-23T13:20:12.0000000Z"},{"id":"nextnyc","class":"newsletter","publisher":"nextNYC","first_observed_at":"2026-02-16T12:45:28.0000000Z","last_observed_at":"2026-02-23T12:45:50.0000000Z"}],"discovery":{"first_party":[],"newsletter":["garysguide","nextnyc"],"provider":null},"basis":{"audience_roles":{"investors":"inferred","technical_builders":"inferred"},"topics":{"climate":"inferred","enterprise":"inferred"},"audience_orientation":"inferred","company_stage":null,"interaction":"observed","modality":"observed"},"canonical_url":null,"first_seen":"2026-02-16T12:45:28.0000000Z","last_seen":"2026-02-23T13:20:12.0000000Z","observation_count":3}
